MVW Challenge 9 - Moon Rock

This is the style I constructed for Challenge 9 of the Miss Virtual World 2017 pageant. The theme was "Moon Rock", in other words, a futuristic rock concert. I love science fiction and rock music so this challenge was particularly fun for me. I think the boots, hat and hair really make this look. Even in first life, I love a good "rock style" adventure hat. This one has the goggles and goes with my cybernetic style hair from A&Y. The fire from the jet pack is a bit of an embellishment added in, but there is a "beam" on the back of the wings from AITUI.

"After getting off the shuttle, she strappe on a metal-winged jet pack and glided in the direction of the concert nearby. The band was already belting out the tunes, and she could feel the vibration of the music. Along with the nearly weightless gravity, the sensation caused chills to go up her spine and down her arms. Her spiked bangles jingled a bit as she shivered.

She had recently had the latest atmosphere implants put in so breathing was not a problem, nor was the freezing cold of the vacuum of space. She could see the strobe lights now and they flashed over her, causing her boots to twinkle and glow. She smiled as she pressed a hand firmly to her hat as she landed and her favorite tune started to play."

Style #52 - Autumn Ride

I caught this candid moment after an exhausting but beautiful ride through Arranmore. I totally adore this dress and these boots for fall. They both have velvety textures and deep, rustic tones. The little rust colored loops on the dress are especially unique. I usually wear dark blond or light brown hair, but I loved the rust colored tones in this Argrace style with this look.

MVW Challenge 8 - Vintage Halloween

The dancing dolly spins and twirls,
Caught in a spell of musical bliss.
Lost in a dream, she cannot recall

The life that she knew before this.
She jumps and balances on pointed tips,

Ever full of grace.
She does not notice the bleeding tears

Flowing down upon her face.
The dolly dances on forever; pirouettes, fouettés, and turns about.
She does not know her time has run out.

MVW Challenge 7 - French Countryside

The French region of Provence is known for it's peaceful, rolling countryside and blossoming fields of lavender. The violet tones of this medicinal flower are reflected in the accessories of this outfit. The dominating fashion trends are Romantic, Country-Chic and Bohemian Couture.  The light tones of the folded, sleeveless jacket and the floral blouse embrace this aspect. The fabrics used are mostly soft, airy, and light in pastel or muted tones.

There are not overly intense colors or patterns in the fields of France. The hat and the pants have a complementing tartan style that perfectly reflect the relaxed fashion of the pastoral setting. The stylish and carefree look is idyllic and soothing, embracing the calm, rural setting that is so full of grace and charm. This look is perfect for a French mademoiselle who is just opening a newly renovated bed and breakfast only a few hours from Marseille.

MVW 2017 Challenge 4 - Art Fellowship

The POP ART sensation was an international movement of the mid 1950s and the 1960s that included famed artists such as Andy Warhol and Keith Haring. The concept was to glorify more commonplace themes in advertising, popular culture and media rather than classic art styles like Van Gogh or Rembrandt. The idea was to take something considered mundane and make it brilliant and impressive.

This outfit shows the basic elements of Pop Art culture, particularly in fashion. Bright, bold, colors with almost comic book style, abstract expressionist art like the image on the top. There is also something of a 1950's traditional element in the polka dot high heeled shoes and fur stole but with a more overblown sense of color and patterns. With a degree in art, I would use Pop Art and similar styles to create fashion logos and advertising.

MVW Challenge 3 - Look-A-Like Style: Gisele Bündchen and Iris Apfel

During the grueling but fun Boot Camp for MVW, I was selected to represent the model Gisele Caroline Bündchen. The Brazilian supermodel is most well known for her work as a Victoria's Secret Angel. She is well known for wearing slinky lingerie and giant feathered wings as she struts down the runway in her trademark "horse" walk. I remember her as the most amazing model I beheld between the pages of Vogue when I was just a teenager.

She was always my favorite model from that time to this, not because of her classic looks so much as the way she could portray so many different styles successfully. I remember looking at a fashion spread of her in one issue and she looked like almost a different person on every page. I have frequently emulated her style in my own fashion pursuits both in second and first life.

While she can wear almost anything and look amazing, Gisele's own personal style is casual and carefree with some designer flourishes. She wears her golden, wavy locks loose and tousled. This natural style she possesses often comes through even when she is wearing formal gowns.

I chose this style and image to reflect that combination of high fashion couture and natural, relaxed grace that Ms. Bündchen embodies. The knit white sweater, torn jeans, and aviator glasses are staple pieces in her personal style. The background and pose shows these items to the best advantage and reflects some of her best paparazzi candid shots.

On another challenge for that same week, we represented either Iris Apfel or Helen Rose. At 95 years old, Iris Apfel, like her fashion style, refuses to be ignored. Having spent most of her life as a fashion icon, she has great confidence and what she wears reflects that. She is an advocate for eliminating ageism from the fashion industry.

She works with universities and designers to educate others in a complex and ever changing field. Her courage to be herself and generosity has inspired generations to be uniquely creative. She has even donated 900 articles of clothing from her own collection to the Massachusetts Museum.

I wanted to incorporate clothing that would look great on most body types at any age. Iris Apfel loves large, unique bangles and beads, as well as interesting textures like the embroidery on the jacket and the fringe on the lace skirt. Knee high and thigh high boots are a frequently recurring theme in her collections like the burgundy, leather boots.

I chose Iris because her preferences for bold, bright colors and patterns strongly reflect the designs of Finland. There are also similarities in her preference for strong contrasts and structured pieces in her ensembles. I personally enjoy the fun and carefree tone of her collections that give a sense of youthful perspective at any age.
